One New Year’s Eve, Twitter was torched by live tweets from Zomato owner Deepinder Goyal about the number of orders the food delivery app received. And it wasn’t just India. People from outside India, especially the UAE, Lebanon and Turkey, were placing orders for people in India.

Here are some of the tweets that describe the frenzy

With restrictions on celebrations in most cities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, most people, it seems, have preferred to stay home and order food. And according to the CEO’s live account, there was no particular preference for the New Years Eve menu; salads, biryani – anything and everything was there on the plate. The per-minute order rate as of December 31 was the highest on record, as stated by the CEO of the app, which was founded in 2008. It topped the food order rate between India and Pakistan at 18 hours, Goyal tweeted.

Meanwhile, he also shared a screenshot of a zoom call with members of his team, who were obviously blown away by the order rate.
