Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is the world’s first Snapdragon 780G smartphone

Xiaomi today released an official teaser dedicated to Mi 11 Lite 5G smartphones. The image highlights two features of the model: the slim body and the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G SoC. But what is important here?

The point is, the Snapdragon 780G is Qualcomm’s second SoC after the Snapdragon 888, built using the standards of a 5-nanometer technological process. It also uses the “1 + 3 + 4” scheme: the processor is divided into three clusters with one high performance core, three of the same cores, but operating at a lower frequency, and four energy efficient cores. One important difference from the Snapdragon 888 is the lack of a Cortex-X1 super core – it is certainly very powerful, but it is said to cause problems with power consumption and heating for the Snapdragon 888.

Snapdragon 780G

The Snapdragon 780G will not have such problems because the four powerful cores are the famous Cortex-A78. Why did Xiaomi give this SoC specifically to the Mi 11 Lite 5G? In this case, they did not have to innovate on expensive cooling subsystems, like the Mi 11 Ultra, while the Mi 11 Lite 5G is presented by the manufacturer as the thinnest and lightest Xiaomi smartphone in the world. the current line, which, moreover, will be no autonomy problems. Overall, switching to a 5nm process and removing the Cortex-X1 from the SoC could be a pretty good combination.

The performance of the Snapdragon 780G is also complete. According to official data, the processor is 45% faster than its predecessor (i.e. Snapdragon 768G processor); and the Adreno 642 GPU is 50% faster than the Adreno 620 GPU in the same Snapdragon 768G. Judging from the data available on the web, the Snapdragon 780G is likely to repeat the success of the Snapdragon 750G; but only in high-end smartphones.

Among the other innovations of the Snapdragon 780G, it should be noted the presence of an integrated 5G modem; and, for the first time in the series, the Spectra 570 image processor; which allows you to take photos from three cameras simultaneously. The Snapdragon 780G also benefits from updated GPU drivers and Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like the Snapdragon 8 Series platforms.

It is worth noting that recently Qualcomm announced the upcoming Snapdragon 7 series processor named Snapdragon 780G 5G. The new chipset will aim to deliver better AI performance, better camera experience, and 5G support. Moreover, it comes with advanced features.
