London: World number one Novak Djokovic advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon. The Serbian defeated the American Denid Kudla. Boutist Agat, Andrei Rublev and Karen Khachanov also advanced to the fourth round. Meanwhile, ninth seed Diego Schwarzman was eliminated in the third round. In the women’s event, Iga Sviatak, Carolina Pliskova and Arena Sabalenka advanced to the fourth round. Meanwhile, 2017 champion Garbine Muguruza was eliminated in the third round.
It was only in the final set against Kudla that Djokovic had to sweat a bit. Djokovic won the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-3. Kudlawick broke Djokovic’s serve early in the third set. But Djokovic, who braked back, extended the set to a tri-break. Djokovic easily won the set and the match.
Eighth seed Agat defeated German Dominic Koffer. The Spaniard won 5-7, 1-6 6-7. Rublev defeated Fabio Fognini of Italy by three sets to one. The score was 3-6, 7-5, 4-6, 2-6. Khachanov advanced to the fourth round, beating American Frances Theofa 3-6, 4-6, 4-6. Schwarzman, meanwhile, conceded defeat to Italian Morton Fukusovic. The score was 3-6, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6.
In the women’s event, former champion Muguruza was defeated by Tunisia’s Ons Jabour. Jabourilan won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Switzerland beat Camelia Begu of Romania 6-1 6-0.
