Thiruvananthapuram: Kitex Group Managing Director Sabu Jacob said the industry needs a system to ensure safety. The response comes after Kitex withdrew from a Rs 3,500 crore new investment project signed with the government in protest of a series of government raids. Sabu Jacob demanded that not only discussions or statements but also industry friendly laws should be brought.
The assurance given by the Minister of Industries alone is not enough. Lower level employees should also cooperate. Sabu said he was adamant that the stand in the Assembly elections was the reason for the probe and that MLA PV Sreenijan was behind it. However, the MLA said that the inspection was carried out as per the court order and that he had no quarrel with Sabu Thomas.
Kitex has complained that the East Coast factory has been inspected 11 times by various departments in the past one month. The inspection team did not find any irregularities or issue a notice. But the tests are repeated for several days. Sabu Jacob had explained yesterday that it was not possible to go ahead like this.
