Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal passed away on Sunday. She was 88 years old. Better known by her first name, Shashikala has appeared as various supporting characters in films such as Bimla, Sujata, Aarti, Anupama, Waqt, Gumrah, Khubsoorat among others.
Indian politician and businessman Praful Patel tweeted the news and wrote: “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actress Shashikala ji. She has made a remarkable contribution to Indian cinema by performing several key roles. My deepest condolences to the members of his family. That his soul rests in peace.”

Shashikala received the prestigious Padma Shri from the Indian government for her unparalleled contribution to the world of film and the arts in 2007. She also received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at the V. Shantaram Awards in 2009. Apart from this, Shashikala won two Filmfare awards for his work in Aarti and Gumrah.
Shashikala has played supporting character roles in over 100 films.
Born August 4, 1932 in Solapur District, Maharashtra, Shashikala was one of six children who began to learn the arts from an early age. Shashikala has two daughters from his marriage to Om Prakash Saigal.
Shashikala was last seen in the 2005 press release Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav, in which she described the role of a South African witness.
