The country may receive the Kovid vaccine as a New Year’s gift. The Union Ministry of Health has directed the states and Union Territories to hold a vaccine dry run on Saturday. The panel of experts will decide on Friday on applications for permits for vaccines developed by various companies for immediate use in the country. The Drug Control General of India (DCGI) on Thursday hinted that the vaccine might arrive at the beginning of the new year.

‘Perhaps, in this very happy New Year we will have something significant on our hands; That’s all I can guarantee ‘— DCGI Dr. VG Somani told the webinar about the wax. India will get the Kovid vaccine in a few days, says Delhi AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria had responded yesterday.

The vaccine, developed jointly by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, is likely to be approved. The vaccine was approved in the UK on Wednesday. The Pune Serum Institute is licensed to manufacture the Oxford vaccine in India. Urgent approval has been sought from Pfizer and India for vaccines developed.

Based on the report that the vaccine dry run conducted in selected places in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab and Assam was successful, dry run was recommended in all the states. The proposal is to organize dry runs in at least three places in the state capitals. States like Kerala and Maharashtra will run dry runs in the capital as well as in major cities.
