New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has resigned. The unexpected resignation comes four months after taking office. Governor Baby Rani handed over her resignation letter to Maurya. According to NDTV, Tirath Singh has also handed over his resignation letter to BJP national president JP Nadda. A meeting of BJP MLAs will be held on Saturday to elect a new assembly party leader.

Tirath Singh, a Lok Sabha member, succeeded Trivendra Singh Rawat as Chief Minister in March. BJP national secretary Tirath Singh Gadwal is representing the constituency. He was the Education Minister in the first government of Uttarakhand. He also held the posts of party state president and general secretary. According to party sources, Tirath Singh was not involved in sectarianism or controversy.
