LONDON: India is among the invited countries to join part of the G7 Foreign and Development Ministers’ meeting to be hosted by the UK next month, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday , Commonwealth and Development (FCDO).
The London meeting will be the first in-person summit of foreign ministers from the Group of Seven countries – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United States and United Kingdom as well as the European Union (EU) and will be held to what has been dubbed a Covid Secure Medium between May 3 and 5.
It is also likely that it will include Foreign Minister S Jaishankar for parts of the summit, with India among the nations invited to the Indo-Pacific region.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab confirmed plans for Tuesday’s meeting in Parliament, stressing that the event would be an opportunity for the world’s biggest democracies to come together.
“Next month’s G7 foreign and development ministers’ meeting is an opportunity to show how the world’s biggest democracies are working together to ensure equitable access to vaccines, build better after the pandemic, help girls in the world. poorest countries to get good quality education and to accept ambitious action to tackle climate change, ”Raab said.
The last meeting of G-7 foreign ministers took place in April 2019 in Dinard and Saint-Malo in France. All national social distancing guidelines will be in effect, placing limits on large gatherings as part of the UK’s lockdown easing roadmap.
The Foreign Ministry said the meeting was a crucial opportunity to revitalize in-person diplomacy and that it will seek to establish a common approach among the world’s leading democracies on equitable access to vaccines, to agree global goals by girls’ education, tough targets on climate finance and new measures. to prevent famine and food insecurity.
It is part of Britain’s G7 presidency this year, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson due to host the G7 summit in the Cornwall coastal region between June 11-13. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the heads of government invited to attend.
