Supreme Court rejects Centre’s argument; The families of those who died of Kovid should be given financial assistance
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the government to provide financial assistance to the families of those who died of Kovid. The court pointed out that it was the responsibility of the central government to provide financial assistance.
The Supreme Court said the National Disaster Management Authority had failed to provide funding. The court said the guideline should be prepared within six weeks and the Center could decide on the amount to be paid.
Earlier, the Center had said in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that it could not pay compensation to the families of those who died of Kovid.
The Center had said that only natural calamities could be compensated under the Disaster Management Act.
