States that partially reopen schools from January 1

Several states have decided to reopen schools from the first day of the new year 2021, with restrictions being relaxed as the number of Covid-19 cases decreases, although concerns about the new British strain prevail. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim have already partially reopened classes.

Here are the states that are reopening the schools of tomorrow.


Schools in Kerala have remained closed since the coronavirus lockdown was imposed in March, will partially reopen on January 1. Classes for the 10th and 12th standards would start with limited hours and a small number of students. Kerala has been the hotbed of the Covid-19 infection and the number of daily cases in the state is still the highest.


Schools in Karnataka will also reopen from January 1 for students in grades 6 to 12. The government also plans to organize regular classes for the PU-I year from January 15 and launch the Vidyagama program for students in grades 6 to 9 in public schools


All schools and other educational institutions from elementary to university level will be reopened on January 1. Assam has started reopening schools on a phased basis since September.

Many more states will reopen schools in January. Schools in Pondicherry, Pune and Bihar will partially reopen from January 4.
