South Africa is ready for legislation allowing a woman to have more than one husband

Cape Town: The South African government is preparing for legislation allowing a woman to have more than one husband, similar to polygamy. The draft report (Green Paper) published by the Home Department suggests that women can have more than one husband.

In South Africa, which allows same-sex marriage and polygamy for men, women are allowed by only one husband. But the government is preparing for the new legislation in response to gender rights activists’ demand for equal justice.

But conservative people have come out against it. ‘Polygamy is an accepted practice. But polygamy is not like that. It is unacceptable for women to have more than one husband, ”said Kenneth Mesho, leader of the African Christian Democratic Party. Interestingly, even those who currently have four wives have come out against the law.
