Madrid: Real Sociedad won the 2020 Copa del Rey title by defeating Athletic Bilbao. The last time they won a title was in 1987.
Sociedad won the final by a single goal. Two weeks later, Bilbao will face Barcelona in the 2021 Copa del Rey final.
Sociedad had the upper hand in a match in which both teams relied on defense. But they had to rely on penalties to shake the net. In the 63rd minute, captain Mike O’Rourke scored the winning goal from a spot kick. O’Reilly was placed in the right corner of the penalty post for a foul on Portugal in the Inigo Martinez box. The referee initially showed Martinez a red card for a foul on the box, but Ware checked and was shown a yellow card.
Last time, the final was postponed due to the demand of both the teams to give the spectators a chance to watch the final. However, due to the expansion of Kovid, spectators could not enter the stadium this time.
This is the fifth time Bilbao has lost in the Copa del Rey final. This year’s final against Barcelona is on April 17.
