Shreyas Iyer dislocated his right shoulder during the ODI series between India and England. And the injury was serious enough that the Indian drummer was excluded from the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Iyer is scheduled to undergo surgery on April 8, 2021. But then, even though Iyer will not be offering his services for the Delhi (DC) capitals in the 2021 edition of the IPL, he is expected to receive his full salary, and the Delhi Capitals (DC) will have to shell out 7 Crore INR from their purse.

And, Iyer will be eligible for his compensation under the Cricket Control Council of India (BCCI) Players Insurance Policy. This policy, which came into effect in 2011, states that all centrally contracted players will be compensated if they miss an IPL season due to injury or accident. In addition, a player will be eligible for this program if they sustain an injury or accident while in national service. And, Iyer fits the bill perfectly. Another point to note is that a player will not be eligible for compensation under this policy if he is not under a central contract with BCCI.

Shreyas Iyer was a vital cog for the Delhi Capitals (DC)

Shreyas Iyer is an integral part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) outfit. He has played 79 matches in the IPL and played all of them for the Delhi franchise. The right-hander scored 2,200 points in the IPL and scored his points with an average of 31.43.

The 26-year-old was also the second-leading scorer in the race Delhi capitals (DC) in the 2020 edition of the IPL held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Iyer plundered 519 points last season and scored his points with an average of 34.60. In addition, the Delhi capitals hit the shock at the top of the IPL 2020 edition under the leadership of Iyer.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Rishabh Pant has been named the Delhi side skipper for the 2021 edition of the IPL. The Delhi side will play their first game of the 14th edition of the IPL on April 10, 2021 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team. The Delhi squad will be looking to win their first IPL trophy this year.
