The move is aimed at giving Saudi Arabia more prominence on the air travel map. With the launch of the second airline, Saudi Arabia is expected to rise to the fifth position in the global airline list. At the same time, Saudi Arabia has not shared details about the formation and services of the new airline.

Earlier, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that he would divert the oil-dependent economy to other areas. Saudi Arabia aims to generate 45 billion riyals ($ 12 billion) in revenue from non-oil sectors by 2030. To this end, Saudi Arabia is planning to expand its domestic facilities.

Saudi Arabia will also take steps to facilitate global cargo movement by building new ports, railways and roads.

At present, the transport and freight sector contributes only 6 per cent of the GDP. Saudi Arabia intends to increase this to 10 percent. Saudi Arabia estimates that Hajj and Umrah will attract more people by establishing better transport links with the three continents. The move will also give a new impetus to the tourism sector.

With the arrival of the second airline, the number of international flights from Saudi Arabia will increase and so will the cargo capacity. It is estimated that it can handle twice as much cargo (over 4.5 million tonnes) as it currently has.

Currently, Saudi Arabia (Saudi Arabian Airlines) is the only official Saudi airline. Compared to other airlines, Saudi Arabia does not have a significant impact on the aviation business. Now, the company is at a loss following Kovid.

In any case, Saudi Arabia’s new goal is to hold on to the aviation business until the Kovid scare leaves.

Local media had previously reported that Saudi Arabia was building a new airport in Riyadh in connection with the formation of the second airline. The international media Bloomberg has also reported this.

The new airline will be based in Riyadh. The new airline will target foreign travelers and business travelers. Jeddah-based Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, will serve religious pilgrims arriving for Hajj and Umrah.
