Thiruvananthapuram: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s wife Vinodini has denied the news that the customs has summoned her for questioning in the gold smuggling case. Vinodini explained that he did not know Unitech owner Santosh Eepan and did not give him the iPhone.
Customs found that Vinodini had used one of the iPhones bought by Santosh Eepan, the owner of Unitac, a contractor in the Life Mission project. Based on this, he has been informed to appear at the customs office next week for questioning. But Vinodini claims that Customs did not call him in for questioning.
Santosh Eepan bought six phones as per the instructions of Swapna. Five of them were found by customs. But Customs could not find out who was using the sixth iPhone. According to Santosh Eepan, the phone was priced at Rs 1.3 lakh. That is what customs has now discovered. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s wife Vinodini Kodiyeri is using the phone.
In an affidavit filed by the High Commissioner in Customs in the High Court yesterday, it was made clear that Speaker P Sriramakrishnan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and three other cabinet ministers were involved in the dollar smuggling. This was followed by the next move by Customs to defend the CPM leadership.
