Pune art director commits suicide after broadcasting video about “harassment”

An artistic director, Rajesh Maruti Sapte, committed suicide in Pune following alleged harassment by a member of the board of the Film Studios Setting and the Allied Mazdoor Union. Before his death, Sapte had broadcast a video in which he explained the reason for his suicide.

In the video, Sapte shared details of the harassment inflicted on him by a Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union official over financial issues. He said he decided to take his own life to protest the harassment he faced.

Sapte had worked as artistic director for some films in Marathi and Hindi. An acquaintance of Sapte said he was based in Mumbai.

Senior Police Inspector Vivek Muglikar confirmed that Sapte committed suicide in a house within the jurisdiction of the Wakad Police Station of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police. Muglikar said Sapte hanged himself at his residence and that further investigation is underway.
