Priyanka Chopra launches Indian restaurant in New York and performs ‘puja’ with Nick Jonas

Actor Priyanka Chopra not only makes sure to bring Indian stories and storytellers to the West, but also gives her a taste of her roots, literally. The White Tiger star announced on Saturday that she is opening a restaurant, Sona, in New York City that will serve Indian cuisines. Priyanka wrote a post on Instagram, making the announcement, and said Sona would embody “the flavors she grew up with.”

“I am delighted to introduce SONA, a new restaurant in New York where I have spread my love for Indian cuisine. SONA is the very embodiment of timeless India and the flavors I grew up with. The kitchen is led by the amazing Chef @harinayak, a masterly talent, who has created the most delicious and innovative menu, taking you on a gastronomic journey through my amazing country, ”Priyanka wrote.

The actor has informed fans that the restaurant will open later this month. She accompanied the post with three photos, one of the restaurant and two of the small prayer ceremony that she and her family, including her husband Nick Jonas, performed in 2019 before starting work on the restaurant.

“The second and third photos were taken in September 2019 when we performed an intimate little Puja (prayer ceremony) to bless the space that would soon become @sonanewyork Godspeed!” She wrote. While one photo shows Priyanka with Nick, the other captures her with restaurateur Maneesh Goyal, who she collaborated with for Sona.

Maneesh Goyal also wrote an article dedicated to Priyanka, on how the actor-producer was the “creative force” behind Sona.
