Indian opener Ishan Kishan became the first Indian batsman in over 10 years to score fifty on his debut in a T20 international. The Mumbai Indians wicket keeper batsman smashed a 56-by-32-ball whirlwind as India claimed a six-wicket victory over England in the second T20 international match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday March 14 .
Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was back to host his popular ‘Chahal TV’ video chat segment and his latest guest was Ishan Kishan. Chahal asked the newbie why he delayed raising his bat to the crowd after completing his half-century as a young girl.
“Jab fifty ho gayi aap dekhne mein aaya tha apne do-teen second beats nahi uthaya. Aapko pata nahi tha aapki fifty ho gayi hai? Nervous thoda ho cheer him up? (When you hit your 50s, we saw a slight delay when you lifted the bat. Didn’t you know you had scored half a century? Were you nervous?) ”Chahal asked Kishan on Sunday .
Kishan, in his response, said he was not nervous but did not know he had reached the 50 point mark. He added that he was not the one who made the celebrations after hitting the milestones. It was only after his skipper Virat Kohli called him that he knew he had indeed slammed fifty on his debut for India.
“Virat bhai ki peeche se awaaz aati hai ‘Oye, chaaro taraf ghoom ke bat dikha. Sab ko bat dikha, pehla match hai tera ‘(Virat said show your bat to the crowds all around the park. Show your bat, it’s your first match), ”Kishan revealed.

The 22-year-old southpaw has recognized the contribution of the passage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to his growth as a batsman.
“It obviously helped (to face Mumbai Indian teammates Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah) in the net. They are very dapper bowlers and hitting shots against them gives you confidence, ”Kishan said in the post-game virtual press conference.
“In IPL you meet quality bowlers from all over the world and you start to get used to these bowlers. And I think it really helped me.
Kishan also said the team’s management supported him to play his natural game without feeling the pressure.
“Before the game I was told to go open the heats and play freely like I play in IPL. I was told not to take extra pressure. But it was my first game, I was a little nervous going to the ground.
“But when you wear your country’s jersey the pressure just goes away and you try to give your best,” added the Mumbai Indians drummer.
