India administered more than 84 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine across the country on Tuesday even as the country continued to witness an increase in the number of daily active cases.
According to government data, 84,065,357 doses of vaccine were administered at 8 p.m. Tuesday. These included 8,960,966 healthcare workers who took the first dose and 5,377,011 who took the second dose.
As many as 9,730,304 frontline workers received the first dose, while 4,268,788 of them also received their second dose.

Among the 45-59 age group, 20,051,197 received their first dose while 396,769 also received their second dose. In the 60 and over category, 34,418,802 people received their first dose of the vaccine, while 861,520 people also received the second dose.
As of Tuesday alone, India had administered 562,807 doses of the vaccine. Of that total, 457,749 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 105,058 received their second dose, according to the interim report.
Meanwhile, India set another record for daily coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, with 115,320 new infections reported nationwide on Tuesday – the second time in three days the country has broken previous records of one-day case, highlighting the dangerous speed at which the second wave is developing.
The previous record for daily cases (103,796) was set on Saturday when new infections in the country crossed the 100,000 mark for the first time since the start of the epidemic.
A total of 630 new deaths were reported across India on Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths from the viral outbreak in the country to 166,229, according to HT’s Covid-19 dashboard.
