Elon Musk has revealed what blew up the SN10 spacecraft on its airstrip a minute after the hit. The SpaceX CEO said the engine was at low thrust, likely due to partial helium ingestion. The impact of this event crushed the rocket’s legs and part of her skirt, causing the massive explosion which was shared on social media and news. SpaceX is currently looking to alleviate the problem in its future model, the SN11.
However, the problem may not be an easy solution, according to Chris Bergin of NASA Spaceflight. The helium ingestion was caused by the pressurization system implemented to resolve a previous issue that caused the SN8 Starship to explode, according to Bergin. Musk says he approved of the change because it seemed sufficient at the time.
