Not a second tier team, India is strong; Sri Lanka Cricket Board responds to Ranatunga

EThe Sri Lanka Cricket Board (BCB) has responded to former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga’s criticism of his decision to play for India’s second team. The board claimed that the Indian team, led by senior Shikhar Dhawan, was strong. Of the 20 players on the team, 14 have played for India in all formats, the board said in a statement. Ranatunga has said that India’s decision to leave the second tier team for the tour of Sri Lanka is tantamount to insulting Sri Lankan cricket and blaming the Sri Lanka Cricket Board for its television marketing interests.

Ranatunge said that India’s best team was sent to England and a weak second team was sent to Sri Lanka. The first ODI of the India-Sri Lanka series will be played on July 13. Rahul Dravid is the coach of the team. Suryakumar Yadav, Prithviraj Shah, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya will be part of India’s strong squad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the vice captain. The series consists of three ODIs and three Twenty20s. The match will be played in Colombo. The Indian team led by Virat Kohli is preparing for the Test series against England.
