Even though coronavirus cases show a steady increase in parts of the country, some joy is finally returning to theaters. As John Abraham-Emraan Hashmi’s Mumbai Saga releases on Friday, March 19, the business is hopeful that single-screen theaters will get footsteps. After Janhvi Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao star Roohi saw more than Rs 20 crore at the box office in less than a week, things look promising, according to the trade.
Directed by Sanjay Gupta, Mumbai Saga is a gangster drama that pits John’s Amartya Rao against Emraan’s cop character. The film, set in the 80s and 90s, chronicles Bombay’s transformation into Mumbai. The crime drama shows the city’s changing face as mills close to make way for malls and high-rise buildings.
John Abraham plays the character of Amartya Rao, who has only one goal in life: to rule the city. His plans may go awry as Emraan’s Inspector Vijay Savarkar watches his every step.
In a media interaction that followed the trailer’s launch, John was asked what was about the kind of gangster that made him come back to it. To this, John said he chooses these movies to connect with audiences because that’s where “he belongs.”
Mumbai Saga songs are composed by Yo Yo Honey Singh and Payal Dev while lyrics are written by Hommie Dilliwala and Yo Yo Honey Singh.
