Thrissur; Petition filed in the High Court seeking annulment of the election victory of Minister R Bindu. Thomas Unniyadan, a UDF candidate from Iringalakuda, filed the petition.

Bindu, who is only an associate professor, was earlier controversially sworn in as a minister in the name of a professor. In the incident, the Save University Campaign Committee had lodged a complaint with the Governor against Bindu. The demand was that the oath taken in reference to the wrong position should be revoked.

The committee had pointed out in its complaint that the government had issued a special gazette notification correcting the mistake regarding the status of Minister Bindu. The notification was issued on the grounds that such a description in the affidavit could lead to legal action as he had not been promoted to professor.

Bindu defeated Thomas Unniyadan of the UDF from Iringalakuda by more than 6,000 votes. The constituency captured by Unniyadan from 2001 to 2011 was captured by the LDF through Bindu.
