Rourkela: Former Indian hockey star Michael Kindo has died at the age of 73. He was a member of the team that won the 1975 Hockey World Cup. Michael Kindo, a full back, was also an integral part of the Indian team that won the 1972 Olympics bronze medal.
He died at the Ispat General Hospital following a congenital disease. India won the World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1 in the final. He was the only player alive at the time.
Hockey India and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have expressed their condolences on the death of Kindo. Michael Kindo is also an Arjuna Award winner. Kindo was born in the village of Boydham in the Kurdeg block of Rourkela.
