New Delhi: Rio Olympics gold medalist Mariappan Thankavelu has been honored. Thankavelu has been given the opportunity to lead the team to the Paralympic Games at the Tokyo Olympics this year. In 2016, Mariappan proudly won gold for India in the high jump event at the Rio Olympics. The Paralympics will be held in Tokyo from August 24 to September 5.

‘This time Mariappan Thankavelu will lead the Tokyo Olympics Paralympic team. I am happy that all the players trained well during the Corona era as well. Everyone’s physical fitness is excellent. The corona period took special care not to paralyze anyone’s mind. The Olympic Association officials were in constant contact with all the athletes. Paralympic Committee Chairperson Deepa Malik said.

From the beginning we were careful to make it clear that our players are going to the world stage. The training was therefore world class. Malik thanked the Indian Olympic Association for providing all the facilities of the Olympic Committee’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the Paralympic athletes.
