People traveling to Assam from outside states will have to be compulsorily quarantined at home for seven days amid the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

“All passengers arriving by flights and trains from out of state will have to be compulsorily quarantined at home for seven days, even if the result of the COVID test undergone on arrival is negative,” he said. the state government said in a notification on Wednesday.

However, government officials, those traveling for medical reasons and people visiting the state due to bereavement will be exempt, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Mr Sarma further said the health department was working tirelessly to step up testing by deploying testing centers in every neighborhood in the state capital.

“We are strengthening the COVID19 testing facilities by establishing a testing center in every neighborhood in Guwahati town so that people can access RT-PCR or rapid antigen testing without any problems,” the minister tweeted. Assam.

Assam has reported 1,665 new cases of COVID-19, 297 exits and five deaths in the past 24 hours. The state currently has 9,048 active cases while deaths have climbed to 1,150.

The state government has already announced that it will vaccinate everyone over 18 for free against the coronavirus in the third phase of the vaccination campaign which will begin from May 1.
