Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has joined the Trinamool Congress

Kolkata: Just weeks before the Bengal Assembly elections, former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has joined the Trinamool Congress. Sinha joined the party office in Kolkata. Sinha, a 1960 batch IAS officer, left the IAS in 1984 after 24 years of service and joined the Janata Party into active politics. In 1986, he became the All India General Secretary of the party.

Elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1988. When the Janata Dal was formed in 1989, the BJP left. He was the General Secretary of the party and was the Finance Minister (1990-91) in the Chandrasekhar cabinet. Later, Yashwant left the party due to discomfort with the Janata Dal and returned to the BJP. In 1996, he became the national spokesperson of the party. Vajpayee served as Finance Minister and External Affairs Minister in the Cabinet. In 2014, he left electoral politics and gave way to his son. Yashwant Sinha left the BJP in 2018 following differences with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
