New Delhi: The Congress candidate debate will continue today. In this case, the High Command is actively discussing the issue of Nemtu’s competition. Indications are that no group leaders will be here. With Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala protesting, there is a possibility of another leader. The High Command wants KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran to contest. Earlier, Shashi Tharoor and K Muraleedharan were considered but it was not possible to give concessions as they are MPs. This is the reason why Mullappally is considered.
Nemtu Hindu votes are very crucial. Therefore, both the Kerala leadership and the High Command had earlier assessed that Ramesh Chennithala was more likely than Oommen Chandy. At the same time, this possibility persists even if Mullappally comes. He is not contesting in Malabar. Both the High Command and the district leadership were ready to give him the Kannur seat. But Mullappally sees being an MLA from K Sudhakaran’s district as a big headache. Mullappally does not have such a good relationship with Sudhakaran.
The High Command has directed Mullappally to contest. The matter may be discussed today. The Congress is of the view that group leaders should not contest for the time being. Mullappally has said that he will stand by whatever the High Command says. Earlier, Mullappally himself had said that there would be a strong candidate in Nemmu. Mullappally has no objection to Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala contesting. But leaders know that success is not easy if they compete. Nemtu Congress has very weak organizational leadership.

Mullappally was the first to demand that Oommen Chandy should contest from Puthuppally. Now that constituency has come to him. But if Mullappally comes, the chances of victory will decrease. The Congress campaign to bring down the strong to oppose the BJP is also worthless. If it was Oommen Chandy, it would have made a huge impact. Meanwhile, the Congress has decided to contest 91 seats. Ten seats, including Neem, are yet to be decided. The League is contesting in Perambalur, Punalur and the Kerala Congress in Thrikkarippur.
