Kozhikode: Sufian, a native of Koduvalli, one of the masterminds of the Karipur gold robbery case, has surrendered. He surrendered at the Kondotty police station. Malappuram SP Sujith said that Sufian had reached the spot on the day of the accident at Ramanattukara. The number of people arrested in the case has risen to 11.

The probe team concluded that the citation was taken by a team led by Sufian to protect the gold that Moitheen, a native of Thamarassery, was planning to smuggle from the UAE and to deal with the gang that was coming to snatch it. The arrested persons had given a statement that it was Sufian who had formed the quotation team from Cherpulassery and formed a WhatsApp group to execute the quotation.

Police had also received information that Sufian had reached the spot after learning that five members of the Quotations team had died in a road accident in Ramanattukara. The dramatic surrender followed the intensification of the search for him. Sufian Kofepose, who was previously arrested twice for smuggling gold from the UAE, has been jailed.

The vehicle in which Sufyan was traveling was also taken into custody. His brother Fijaz was also arrested yesterday. The SP said more people involved in the case are yet to be arrested.
