In March of last year, Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP, which led to the fall of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh.
BJP MP Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday things would have been very different if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had been as concerned about him before as he was now, a day after Rahul Gandhi said Scindia should return to Congress if he wanted to become a chief minister.
“The situation would have been different if Rahul Gandhi had been concerned in the same way he is now, when I was in Congress,” said Scindia.
Addressing the Indian Youth Congress executive committee meeting, Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that he had assured Jyotiraditya Scindia that he would one day become the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. But since Scindia has chosen a different path and left the party to become a backbench MP for the BJP, he can never become the chief minister again.
“Write it down, he will never become chief minister there. He will have to come back here for that,” Rahul said.
In March of last year, Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP, which led to the fall of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh. The state’s chief congressman, Digvijaya Singh, said Scindia was offered the CM deputy post but turned it down and wanted to place someone else, which was rejected by Kamal Nath. In his defense, Scindia said at the time that he turned down the job because he wanted to work for the people.
The episode was almost re-broadcast in Rajasthan after Congress leader Sachin Pilot turned into a rebel, but was later appeased by the Ashok Gehlot government.
Rahul Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia’s association goes back a long way and after Scindia quit the party, Rahul said that they go to college together and its doors are still open for Scindia. “Jyotiraditya is the only one who can enter my home at any time … He was with me at the university,” Rahul had said.
