Kolkata: The flow of people from the BJP to the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has not stopped. About 200 activists returned to Trinamool yesterday. They joined the party after shaving their heads and spraying Ganga water. They claimed to be doing this for self-purification. The incident took place in Hooghly.
‘Joining the BJP was a big mistake. After shaving their heads and sprinkling Ganga water on them, they are going back to Trinamool, ”the activists said.
Activists accepted Trinamool membership from Arambagh MP and Trinamool leader Aparupa Poddar.
An event to feed the poor was held in Arambagh on Tuesday. The MP claimed that about 200 Trinamool members from the Dalit community had joined the program.
Hundreds of activists from different parts of the state have returned to the party after the Trinamool Congress retained power in the Assembly elections. This includes pro-BJP leaders including Mukul Roy to district secretaries.
Recently, about 50 BJP workers staged a dharna in front of the Trinamool office demanding their withdrawal.
