Jeep Magneto electric off-road SUV concept unveiled

The Jeep Magneto is set to make its debut at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari, the week-long Jeep event held annually in Moab, Utah.

Earlier this month, Jeep revealed a preview of two concepts that will be showcased at Jeep’s annual Easter Jeep Safari event later this month. The event usually includes the unveiling of some unique concepts as well as off-road adventures. As the event draws near, the US automaker has rolled out four new concepts that will debut this week.

Concepts include a restored classic like the Beach Jeepster, modern options like the Wrangler Orange Peelz and Gladiator Red Bare, as well as a fully electric Jeep that has been named ‘Magneto’. To be fair, the last one strikes us as the most interesting as it should hit production as early as the end of 2021.

Last month, Jeep registered a trademark for the name “Magneto,” and speculation of an all-electric Jeep Wrangler began to circulate the Internet. Well, it looks like the rumors might turn out to be true.

Speaking of the Magneto concept, it’s basically an all-terrain electric vehicle with two-inch lift, 35-inch all-terrain tires, 30-inch water fording capabilities as well as a manual transmission. 6-speed. Based on the two-door 2020 Wrangler Rubicon, the car is equipped with a custom-built axial-flow electric motor that operates at up to 6,000 rpm.

The electric motor develops 285 horsepower and a torque of 370 Nm, pushing the Magneto to 100 km / h in 6.8 seconds. The Jeep Magneto receives four lithium-ion battery packs with a combined output of 70 kWh. One battery has been placed under the hood, while two are located on either side of the old fuel tank housing, and the fourth has been placed inside the rear storage.

In terms of design, the concept model bears the name “Magneto” on its hood in exactly the same place as the Rubicon. Apart from that, a huge hood scoop can also be seen, and it looks like the one seen on the most powerful Wrangler to date – the V8-powered Rubicon 392.

We also see an LED light bar that hides behind the traditional seven-slat grille and lines up with the LED headlights. The U.S. automaker has yet to reveal details of the electric Wrangler, but we do know it will keep its body-to-frame chassis and four-wheel drive system.
