Iraqi PM meets pope at Vatican

The historic presence of Christians in Iraq must be confirmed through canonical procedures.

The Pope and the Prime Minister of Iraq have acknowledged that the national debate is important for Iraq’s integrity and reconstruction.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Holy See’s Press Office, Press Office, on Friday (02/07/21) following a meeting between Pope Francis and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi at the Vatican.

Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Iraq this year, the need to ensure the historic presence of Christians in that country and the same rights as other citizens in the country, and the atmosphere of mutual trust and peaceful coexistence that Christians can contribute to the common good. The press office revealed.

After talks with the pope, Prime Minister Al-Qaeda met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State for the Vatican, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary of the Vatican’s Foreign Office.
