Hyderabad girl forcibly married off to 56-year-old man rescued by police

A 16-year-old girl from Hyderabad, forcibly married to a 56-year-old man from Kerala on Sunday, was rescued by police in Hyderabad. The “aunt” who married the girl, the middlemen who acted as brokers and arranged the marriage and the Qazi who performed the wedding, “knowing it was wrong” were arrested, a senior police official said .

Abdul Rahman and Waseem Khan who acted as intermediaries and Qazi Mohammad Badiyuddin Quadri of Malakpet, who celebrated the nikaah, were arrested and sent to prison.

The groom, Abdul Lateef Paramban, from Kerala, is missing.


The girl’s mother is dead and her father is said to be bedridden. It was his cousin who lodged a complaint with the state police, after which the crackdown took place.

The “aunt” actually a distant relative – Hoorunnisa allegedly took Rs 2.5 lakh from the man who wanted to marry. She kept Rs 1.5 lakh for herself and gave the rest to the brokers and the clerk who performed the wedding.

A case of rape and sexual assault of a minor under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) was filed against the man by the Falaknuma police. Another case under Articles 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act has also been filed.

There is also a case of cheating and forgery against Hoorunnisa because she used documents from the 16-year-old’s older sister in order to marry the younger one.
