Gujarat imposes a nighttime curfew in 20 cities in the middle of the Covid-19 peak. Details here

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced today that “night curfews will be imposed in 20 cities across the state between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting tomorrow.”

The CM further added: “100 people must be allowed to attend weddings. Major events will be postponed until April 30. Government offices will remain closed on Saturdays until April 30”.

The cities where the night curfew will be imposed are Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Morbi, Patan, Godhra, Dahod, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Bharuch, Surendraniagar and Amrel.

Meanwhile, Gujarat reported 3,280 fresh positive coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the largest increase in one day, bringing the number of infections to 324,878 while 17 deaths brought the toll to 4,598, a the state health department said on Tuesday.

There are 17,348 active cases left in Gujarat.

Of the 17 deaths, seven patients each died in Ahmedabad and Surat, while two died of infection in Rajkot and one died in Vadodara district.

With 2,167 people recovering in the past 24 hours, the number of recoveries in Gujarat rose to 3,02,932 on Tuesday, the department said in a statement.

Gujarat’s recovery rate fell to 93.24%, he said.

At 798, the city of Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of cases in the state in the past 24 hours, followed by 615 cases in Surat, 321 in Rajkot, 218 in Vadodara, 196 in Surat district, 124 in Vadodara district and 107 in Patan district.

A total of 70.38 lakh people in Gujarat have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 8.47 lakh others have received the second dose so far, the statement said.

Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: positive cases 3,24,878 new cases 3,280, deaths 4,598, referral 3,02932, active cases 17,348 and people tested so far – unpublished figures.

A total of 16 new cases have been reported in the neighboring union territory of Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in the past 24 hours, officials said, adding that 28 patients were released during the day. .

Of the 3,760 cases of COVID-19 recorded so far in UT, 3,567 patients have recovered and two patients have died, they said, adding that UT had 191 active cases.

Most states across the country have imposed new restrictions amid the latest wave of COVID-19 infections. The government of Maharashtra has announced new guidelines as part of its ‘Break the Chain’ campaign to curb the spread of new coronavirus infections, including the nighttime curfew and weekend lockdown.

The Delhi government has also imposed a nighttime curfew until April 30.
