Google has announced it will close its mobile shopping app for iOS and Android devices by June of this year.
The mobile shopping app will however be available on the desktop (web) version. This means that the shopping.google.com website will remain active.
The company confirmed the decision to 9to5Google on Sunday.
“In the coming weeks, we will no longer support the Shopping app. All of the functionality the app provides to users is available under the Shopping tab,” the company said in a statement.
“We will continue to build features in the Shopping tab and other Google surfaces, including the Google app, that make it easy for people to find and buy the products they love,” he said. added.
The mobile shopping app allowed users to choose from thousands of online stores and make purchases using their Google Account.
The move comes as Google expands shopping functionality into search, image search and YouTube, while increasingly taking advantage of augmented reality, according to the report.
Xda developers discovered that the term “sunset” had been added to several strings of code in the Shopping app, suggesting that the apps were being shut down.
