Here is the full text of his farewell letter shared by him on LinkedIn:

Hello team,

Jan 2006. I had just finished solving a whiteboard linked list problem during my interview with Google when my interviewer asked me about my personal interests. I hesitated to mention my love of poetry. The interviewer immediately asked me to recite my favorite poem * and then we spent the next 10 minutes discussing it. At that moment, I knew that a company where two engineers were discussing beauty, emotions and poetry in an interview was something special and I had to register. And that’s what I did.

I entered the interview thinking that I would only spend a few years learning how to create consumer products and then start a business. I had no idea that I would fall in love with the people, the culture and the amazing opportunity and end up staying ~ 15 years. But now is the time for me to venture out and embark on a new mission.

My time at Google has never been a job for me and I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to start and work on products that have positively impacted the daily lives of millions of people.

ChromeOS Team: Congratulations on making ChromeOS the # 2 operating system in the world! You’ve changed the way students learn in millions of classrooms and homes around the world and are on your way to making computers truly accessible to everyone, everywhere!

NBU Team: Over the past 5 years, you have helped pivot a massive business into a very important segment, the next billion users, who need our magic the most. You’ve been true innovators – fearlessly creating useful new products, rotating them when they weren’t to scale, and tirelessly pouring gas on them when they hit the groove (Tez / GPay & Files). You have given voice to the forgotten, taught the world how to create for everyone, everywhere, and helped make Google a popular business in many countries around the world. With Google’s desire to create for new Internet users, the company is even more excited to create for NBU. I can’t wait to see the magic you create next.

Google Pay Team: You started by helping catalyze the transformation of digital payments in India. Today, millions of users, billions of transactions and several million merchants later, even street vendors use GPay to accept payments! And all this in just over 3 years. Then, as you battled one of the worst years in human history, you brought a reinvented GPay to the United States and Singapore. Feedback on the launch has been very positive and growth has been strong, especially with younger and more mobile users. You are riding one of the biggest waves of technology that will change everyone’s relationship with money. Hold fast. You have the right strategy, the right team and the wind is on your back. This ride will be epic!

Payment Platform Team: You are the silent champions of Google’s financial growth. Without your tireless efforts, none of Google’s businesses would be able to grow and transact safely and securely. You’ve done an incredible job over the past few years rebuilding the engines while flying at top speed. I can’t wait to see how you make it easy for everyone, everywhere to pay and make money with Google.

Google Finance Team (finance.google.com): You took a much-loved Google property, beautifully revamped it, and made it available to the world. I know you have big plans for the future – I can’t wait to see how you will help more people understand the power of the stock market and make investing more accessible and fair for everyone.

NBU National Teams: For the many, many Googlers working in Africa, APAC, LATAM and MENA, it has been inspiring to hear your voices gain more weight in the products that Google is building. I know there is still a lot of work to be done. But we are light years ahead of what we were a short time ago. You’ve helped digitize your economies, make Google feel local, and propel Google’s investment in your countries to unprecedented levels. Your passion and leadership are making Google better and laying the foundation for a prosperous future for users around the world. Thank you for all you do, every day, for our next billion users.

Working with all of you and having the opportunity to serve you as a leader is one of the greatest highlights of my life. Thank you for trusting me, for teaching me, for allowing me to learn through my mistakes and for inspiring me every step of the way.

My last day at Google will be April 30. I haven’t decided what to start with next. I’m going to take some time to relax, talk to interesting people, reconnect with the outside world, and ride my bike (my latest obsession, picked up during lockdown)! I know my decision may come as a shock to many of you, and I apologize for any pain or disappointment this may cause. But you’ve heard me say many times that our time on earth is our most precious resource, and it’s time for me to find a new way to impact it.

As I embark on this next chapter of my life, I am extremely grateful for this wonderful company and our leadership, especially Sundar, who took a bet on me, a novice PM, a decade and a half ago, sponsored me, gave me the opportunity to learn, grow, make mistakes and build deep friendships that I will cherish forever. I’m also grateful to my management team and all of you for all you’ve accomplished, driven by our mission to help unlock economic opportunities and make Google feel like it’s designed for everyone. . I feel like I went to product and team development school at Google and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully express how grateful I am for this opportunity. The world is going digital at a faster rate than ever before and with Google’s depth of talent, the best is yet to come.

At this point, my priority is to make sure that we continue to perform brilliantly with minimal disruption. I know you all have the unwavering support of our leaders, who believe in the strategic importance of payments and the NBU. I look forward to seeing our collective vision come to life in the months and years to come as I cheer you all on from afar.

I leave, my heart full of gratitude and joy, celebrating the many beautiful moments that Google and all of you have given me. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

~ Caesar

* All of you who sleep tonight by Vikram Seth

All you sleeping tonight
Far from those you love,
No hands left or right,
And the void above –
Know that you are not alone.
The whole world shares your tears,
Some for two nights or one,
And some for all their years.
