The Shanghai Auto Show got off to a good start on Monday with automakers around the world converging to showcase the best they have to offer and the ultimate they plan to drive in the times to come. As cars dominated the playing field, SUVs garnered special attention, with nearly every manufacturer flaunting their respective strengths when it comes to average machines designed to excite potential customers.

The Shanghai Auto Show officially starts from April 21 and will run until April 28. Media previews, however, began from Monday, April 19, and one preview is enough to gauge how much local and global players care about this event.
Volkswagen AG presented its ID.6 electric vehicle which will eventually be available in six and seven seater versions. It is a key player in the brand’s electric ambitions, which hopes to compete more closely with Tesla in the times to come.
Toyota came next and made it clear its intentions regarding its vision of an electric future. Its bZ4X Concept EV has managed to attract a lot of people and the fact that it will first launch in China and Japan before heading elsewhere meant there was a genuine buzz around it. Honda gave more than just a glimpse of its prototype SUV which will be its first electric vehicle sold in China. (Learn more about the SUV here)

General Motors has removed the covers from the Envision Plus midsize SUV, making it clear that that means business when it comes to deeper models.

Ford also unveiled its mid-size SUV – EVOS. This car was largely developed by a team based in China and could play a key role in the dreams of the American company to have a say in the Chinese car market. (Read more here)
This is perhaps easier said than done because the rivalry of the local actors is quite intense. Volvo Cars owner Geely Auto showcased their flagship SUV called Xingyue L, a car with technology that could help it park and pick up the driver as well.
