New Delhi: The Election Commission has issued an order banning exit polls. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has banned the conduct of exit polls from 7 am on Saturday, March 27, 2021 to 7.30 pm on April 29, 2021, and the publication and dissemination of their results through print and electronic media or any other means. The action is under sub-section 1 of section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
This applies to Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Puducherry Assembly elections and by-elections to the Lok Sabha and various State Legislative Assemblies.
Electronic media is prohibited from publishing all election-related information, including the results of predictive surveys, within 48 hours before the close of voting at various stages of the upcoming general and by-elections. The action is under Section 126 (1) (b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
