Delhi HC Seeks Center Response on Advocacy Challenging New IT Rules | India News

NEW DELHI: The Delhi District Court on Tuesday requested the Centre’s response to a plea challenging the new information technology (Intermediate Directives and Media ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh issued opinions to the Department of Electronics and Information Technology and the Department of Information and Technology, and allowed them time to file their response.
The High Court heard a petition filed by the Foundation for Independent Journalism that new computer rules released by the government on February 25 are patently illegal in seeking to control and regulate digital news media when parent rules IT law nowhere does such a mandate exist.
The advocate said he had deep and serious damage to digital news media, like the petitioner, and destroyer of their rights.
She sought to declare “IT rules null and void as far as they define and apply to editors of topical and topical content.”
