The daily coronavirus positivity rate in India in the past 12 days has doubled to 16.69%, while the weekly positivity rate has risen to 13.54% in the past month, the ministry said on Sunday. health.
India reported a record 261,500 new coronavirus cases and 1,501 deaths on Sunday, while active cases topped the 18 lakh mark, according to ministry data.
Ten states – Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan – reported 78.56% of new infections, he said.
“The daily positivity rate over the past 12 days has doubled from 8% to 16.69%,” the ministry said in a statement. “The national weekly positivity rate has fallen from 3.05% to 13.54% in the past month.”
Chhattisgarh reported the highest weekly positivity rate with 30.38%, followed by Goa with 24.24%, Maharashtra with 24.17%, Rajasthan with 23.33% and Madhya Pradesh with 18.99 %, according to the ministry.
The number of active cases in the country stood at 18,01,316, or 12.18% of total infections and a net increase in infections over a 24-hour period.
Five states – Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala – account for 65.02% of active cases in India.
Cumulative recoveries soared to 1,28,09,643 after 1,38,423 more people recovered.
Of the 1,501 deaths, 10 states account for 82.94 percent of new deaths. Maharashtra saw the highest number of deaths at 419, followed by Delhi with 167 deaths.
Nine states and union territories have not reported any deaths from COVID-19. These are Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
