Vatican City: Pope Francis has ordered cuts in the salaries of people, including cardinals and priests, during the Corona crisis. The Vatican’s official media outlet published an order in The Roman Observatory.
From April, the cardinals’ salaries will be cut by 10 percent. The salaries of the heads of various departments will be reduced by eight per cent and the salaries of other priests and nuns by three per cent.
The Vatican’s financial resources have been declining recently. This was exacerbated by the corona crisis. In this case, the pope’s order is to reduce wages to protect jobs.
The Vatican’s economy has been hit hard by the slowdown in the tourism sector following the Kovid expansion. Revenue from the Vatican Museum and other tourist attractions has dropped significantly. Other basilicas in Rome under the Pope will also be underpaid.
