The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC sealed 316 buildings in Mumbai after the city reported the highest spike of 3,775 new Covid-19 cases and the number of active containment zones reached 40.

The number of containment zones and sealed buildings has increased dramatically over the past six days in Mumbai with an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.

With a surge in coronavirus cases in the city, the Municipality of Brihanmumbai has decided to conduct more than 47,000 rapid antigenic tests in public places every day.

Mumbai added more than 37,000 new cases in the space of a month. It recorded the largest one-day increase in cases earlier this week.

In a circular issued on Friday, the city body said rapid antigenic tests would be carried out free of charge, except for those in shopping malls. The tests carried out in shopping centers will be chargeable.

Testing will be mandatory for those selected, and those who refuse will face action under the epidemic law of 1897, the circular said.
