New Delhi: As part of a complete halt to off-net domestic voice-call charges, Geo will make all off-net domestic voice calls free from January 1, 2021. Reliance Jio will no longer charge calls to other networks from January 1.
Known as the Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC), Geo has been charging this rate since last September. Troy had earlier announced that it would discontinue it from January 2021. With this you can now make free calls to any network within the country.
As per the directions of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the Bill & Keep rule will be implemented in the country from January 1, 2021. This puts an end to interconnect usage charges (IUCs) for domestic voice calls to all other networks.
In September 2019, when TRAI extended the deadline for implementing the Bill & Keep rule to January 1, 2020, Geo had no choice but to charge off-net voice calls from customers. In doing so, Geo assured users that the charge would only continue until Troy terminated the IUC charges. Today, Geo has kept that promise and made off-net voice calls free again.
All users will now be able to enjoy free voice calls with Geo, Geo said in a statement.
