Apex video teases new legend and possible Olympus map update

Apex Legends celebrated its milestone of 100 million players with a taste of what’s to come. A new video released today hinted at the next Legend to join the Apex Games and showed a possible map update for Olympus, with a date: April 19.

While it’s unclear what Respawn has in store for April 19, the date could mark a reveal or in-game teaser for season nine, which is slated to debut early next month. The trailer, however, gave fans a lot to dissect as they wait for the start of next week.

New legend?

The end of the video shared a glimpse of someone who appears to be the next legend to join the fray in season nine. The character flies around the screen briefly, as if propelled by a jetpack. It is difficult to see anything other than a silhouette. The way it’s presented in the air, however, could point to a previously mined data legend that’s expected to join the game for some time.

Data miners have uncovered a legend who is believed to be able to fly in game files. The character, known only as Valk, is said to be a thriving aviator and has several abilities that allow her and her his teammates, to take a vertical flight.

The addition of a flying legend could shake up the gameplay by Mountain peak. Vertical mobility – for example, with Horizon’s gravity lift or Octane’s updated jump mat – is a valuable resource and having a legend that can use that verticality to the fullest could have a monumental impact on the way the game is played.

Map update possible

In addition to the new legendary teaser, the video hinted at a possible change from Olympus. A screenshot shows a new part of the arena – and it has neon lights, a waterfall, and a familiar ship.

The new arena section could be part of an upcoming Olympus map update in the next season. The area looks like Oasis Square, including the lake that rises above the underground lounge. However, the two symmetrical constructions do not appear in the image. Instead, there are two illuminated pillars with “Oasis” written on them.

The waterfall in the background of the screenshot is reminiscent of Research Basin, the elevated area between Turbine and Hammond Labs. The new section of the map, however, appears to be located on the edge of a map since the right-most side of the screenshot looks like the end of the arena.

As part of the map update, the Mirage Voyage will likely travel to Psamathe after being in both World’s Edge and Kings Canyon. Mirage’s ship appears to be the focus of the new section, and the legend appears in front of her ship a few times while towing.

Respawn has not officially confirmed any of this information and Mountain peak fans will have to wait to find out more. With season nine quickly approaching, however, and the possibility of a big reveal on April 19, the wait might not be that long after all.
