Anand Mahindra, 65, shared a selfie on Twitter.
Anand Mahindra is an active Twitter user, but the president of the Mahindra Group rarely shares his own photos on social media. On Sunday, however, Mr Mahindra posted a rare selfie that shows him wearing sunglasses or, as he calls them, his “Axar sunglasses”. In doing so, the industrialist kept a promise he made to a fan.
It all started on March 6, when Anand Mahindra shared a tweet applauding the Indian cricket team for their impressive victory over England in the fourth test in Ahmedabad. In his tweet, he shared a photo of Axar Patel – whose outstanding performance helped win the match – wearing white-rimmed sunglasses. “I need these sunglasses to commemorate the victory,” Mahindra wrote.
He managed to get hold of the sunglasses quite early on and wore them while watching the second T20 international match between India and England at his home in Mumbai. Mr Mahindra said he knew he didn’t need blinds inside, but hoped they would act as a lucky charm.
When one of his supporters asked him to share a photo of himself wearing the Axar sunglasses, Mr Mahindra vowed to do so – provided India wins the T20 series against England.
On Sunday, as India beat England by 36 races in the fifth Twenty20 International to claim the series, Mr Mahindra kept his promise and shared a photo of himself wearing the lucky sunglasses.
“OK, I have to keep a commitment. Here is the promised selfie with my ‘Axar’ glasses … My new, proven lucky charm,” he wrote.

“Never seen an industrialist be this cool on social media,” one Twitter user wrote in the comments section.
“Wow … What a winning look …” said another.
Anand Mahindra also shared a photo of himself in February last year. On a trip to Narmada, Gujarat, he made a pit stop at the Statue of Unity in Kevadiya and shared a photo with the tallest statue in the world.
