Anand Mahindra Keeps His Promise, Famous Idli Amma From Tamil Nadu Gets New Home Office Space

Almost two years after a woman from Tamil Nadu conquered the Internet for serving cheap idlis for daily wage workers, Anand Mahindra has kept his promise to support and “invest” in his business. The business mogul recently broke the delightful news that the octogenarian will soon have his own home, which will also function as his new restaurant.

Kamalathal from Coimbatore went viral as Idli Amma in 2019 for cooking and selling idlis for just Re 1. For over 30 years, she has been running her business in a small slum. However, she did not care about making a profit and extended her services with those in need in mind.

His thoughtful gesture had moved the president of Mahindra Group at the time, and he had shared his video to help him in any way he could for his great contribution to society. After realizing that her priority was a new home work space, Mahindra’s businesses joined forces to help register the land in her name.

“It’s rare that we get to play a small part in someone’s inspirational story, and I would like to thank Kamalathal, better known as Idli Amma, for letting us play a small part in his. Mahindra wrote online during the announcement.

“I thank the Thondamuthur registrar for helping us reach our first milestone by quickly registering the land,” the businessman wrote on Twitter while sharing images of the elderly woman with officials.

He also informed that the real estate and infrastructure wing of the company would build the custom home-cum-shop “as per Kamalathal’s requirement”. He thanked the local LPG supplier for his constant supply of gas to the woman to run her business.

In 2019, when the woman’s story first went viral, Mahindra pledged to organize an LPG connection to run her idli store. She had used a wood stove.

People on social media loved Mahindra’s gesture and praised him for keeping his promise even though a long time had passed.
