Aisha Sultana’s plea rejected: High court stays treason case: Investigation to continue

Kochi: The high court has ruled that the treason case against Aisha Sultana cannot be dismissed. The court said the case was at an early stage and a decision could be taken only after the investigation progressed. The court rejected Aisha Sultana’s plea to dismiss the case.

The High Court said that there was no impediment to further investigation of the case and time should be given for investigation. The court rejected Aisha’s request to stay the investigation. Aisha’s petition sought cancellation of the FIR registered by the Kavaratti police and termination of proceedings in the case. The petition also said that the law was being abused.

Kavaratti police have registered a case against Aisha for allegedly making treasonous remarks during a Media One channel discussion. Aisha was quoted as saying that the central government had used the corona virus as a bio-agent in Lakshadweep. The BJP representative who took part in the discussion demanded that the statement be withdrawn, but neither Aisha Sultana nor the channel took a favorable position. A number of people, including BJP leaders, have lodged complaints against Aisha. Aisha was abducted and questioned by the police in the case.
