SOFIA: One Air France flight en route from Paris in New Delhi made a emergency landing at Sofia Airport in Bulgaria on Friday around 5 p.m. due to a disruptive passenger, Bulgarian officials said on Saturday.
The passenger, an Indian citizen, began to act shortly after take-off, arguing with other passengers, assaulting a Flight attendant and knocking on the cockpit door, said Ivailo Angelov, an official with the State Investigation Agency.
His aggressive behavior prompted the flight commander to request an emergency landing in Sofia. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken off the plane and charged with endangering flight safety. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
The Air France flight resumed its journey to New Delhi.
“We are investigating both his actions and his motives,” Angelov told reporters. “There is no reasonable explanation for his behavior,” Angelov said.
