Jeep has released a new teaser for its upcoming SUV – which is based on the Compass, and currently codenamed H6

Jeep has already revealed its intention to launch a new SUV based on the Compass. It will be manufactured in Brazil and India, in their factory near Pune. This new SUV will be longer and bigger than the Compass, and will pass above the Compass in the company’s lineup. Currently named the H6, the premium SUV has been spied on in Brazil as well as Italy in recent months.

Earlier reports had suggested that this new product would only be a 7-seater version of the compass, but after the trailer was released, the product is expected to be much more than just a compass with 2 additional seats. . Set to make its world debut in the coming weeks, Jeep Brazil has officially teased this new SUV, which likely hints at the name it will be christened with when it launches.

Return of the commander badge?

A key detail revealed in the video is that the new vehicle will have a nickname that will include “ER” in its name. Speculation suggests that the SUV’s real name would be Commander, which perhaps bodes well with an SUV of its size and proportions. Jeep is already selling an SUV named Grand Commander in China.

Also previously, Jeep had used the Commander badge on a 3-row Grand-Cherokee-based SUV in the early 2000s. Therefore, the rejuvenation of the moniker seems very likely. Take a look at the teaser video below.

Expected features and specifications – Jeep Commander

Jeep has already confirmed that there will be 2 engine options on offer. These would include a 1.3-liter turbo petrol and a retuned 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine, which would be more powerful than the current 2-liter turbodiesel in the Jeep range. In terms of platform, the Commander will share its foundations with the Renegade and Compass, but it will undergo a few changes, thanks to its third row of seats.

Jeep has also said that this new SUV will be one of the more modern cars for sale. Therefore, reports suggest that the SUV would benefit from several features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning and lane departure warning. It will also receive Jeep’s new multimedia system, which will come with 4G connectivity and the wireless mirroring capabilities of smartphones courtesy of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Launch schedule

If the name is indeed Commander, of the upcoming 7-seater SUV based on Jeep Compass, it might not get that name in India. Interestingly, the Commander name has been registered by Mahindra in India since 1991 and is valid until 2025. In India, Jeep registered the Patriot name. It is possible that this new SUV is called Patriot in India.
